Generous JTI employee
Donations for ARISE school in Zambia
Whilst many of us donate clothes and shoes to charity, not many of us know where our donations actually end up. That’s not the case for one generous JTI employee in Geneva whose recent generosity is supporting children at Mawilo School in Zambia.
In August 2016 Yolanda Recarey, a generous employee at JTI in Geneva, donated toys and clothes to help children attending a school in Zambia that’s support by ARISE. The clothes were distributed to 28 pre-schoolers at Mawilo Basic School, whilst the toys remain in the school’s play area for shared use.
Based on the success of this one donation, employees within the Social Programs and Community Investment Departments of JTI in Geneva have organized another collection for October/November this year. The initiative is expected to raises internal awareness of the company’s involvement in the child labor elimination and prevention program. More importantly, the donations will help the children within JTI’s grower communities whose education can be limited due to an unwillingness to attend school in threadbare clothes.
The donations will find their way to several of the 24 ARISE supported schools in Kaoma District, Zambia, where many of the pupils being children of tobacco farmers.
