Protecting Children’s Rights

In Tanzania, an estimated 5 million children are affected by child labor. Poverty and limited access to education often leads to children working to support their families and denying them their right to a safe childhood and proper education.

JTI is addressing this issue through a dual approach of prevention and remediation, delivered via the ARISE program. Prevention aims to stop child labor before it begins, while remediation supports children already affected by it. Together, these approaches form a comprehensive strategy for safeguarding children.

ARISE aims to end child labor in communities where JTI sources tobacco leaf. We work with those directly affected and with others who have the power to change things. Our initiatives are developed and delivered in collaboration with tobacco-growing communities, social partners and governments.
